My Blog: How's the Market?? May, 2012 If you read national stories about real estate, or if you read about Florida and Nevada and California real estate, or if you are not paying attention to local news stories, you might have missed the fact that the spring of 2012 is the strongest residential real estate market in the western suburbs of Boston since 2000. That is 12 years. All the old inventory is being closed out. All, or most of the new inventory, is selling within 2-4 weeks. Prices are not skyrocketing, but they are going up, approaching levels not seen since 2005. And 2005 was the peak. So, like the stock market, after a prolonged period of agony, the real estate market is approaching record highs. Now is the time to sell......with one proviso. In Newton, condos prices are stagnant. Condos are selling, but the prices are not going up. So you might want to wait another year or two if you have a condo that is burning a hole in your pocket.
